Danis stifles his former team
Yann Danis made 23 saves and stopped four in-close attempts in the third period against his
former New York teammates, helping host New Jersey to its fourth straight win.
Brian Rolston scored the winner on a power play, and defenseman Cory Murphy added his first goal
as a Devil as New Jersey won its 10th in 12 games.
Frans Nielsen scored for the Islanders, who have dropped two straight after winning four in a
row. Martin Biron had 29 saves for New York.
Capitals 4, Panthers 1
Caps snap Vokoun's streak
Jose Theodore stopped 28 shots, and Brian Pothier had a goal and two assists as visiting
Washington broke a three-game losing streak.
Brendan Morrison scored twice, and Tyler Sloan added a goal for the Capitals (9-3-4) in the
opening contest of home-and-home series with the Panthers that concludes tonight in Washington.
The Capitals were again without injured star Alex Ovechkin.
Tomas Vokoun, coming off back-to-back shutouts, made 21 saves for the Panthers. He had stopped
77 consecutive shots before Sloan scored in the first period.
OTHER GAMES
• Avalanche 4, Blackhawks 3, SO: Chris Stewart scored in the eighth round of the
shootout, helping NHL-leading Colorado remain unbeaten at home.
Dustin Byfuglien had a chance to tie, but sent his slap shot just wide. The two teams engaged in
a nine-round shootout earlier this season.

Flyers 5, Sabres 2: Daniel Carcillo scored twice and Ray Emery made 28 saves to
lead visiting Philadelphia to its fifth straight victory.
Chris Pronger had a goal and an assist, and James van Riemsdyk and Darroll Powe also scored. The
Flyers (8-4-1) have won three straight by a combined score of 17-5.

Maple Leafs 3, Hurricanes 2: Jason Blake scored on a power play with 8:24 left,
and Jonas Gustavsson made 34 saves to help visiting Toronto win for the second time in 14 games
this season. Brandon Sutter and Sergei Samsonov scored for Carolina.
• Stars 2, Canucks 1: Brad Richards scored midway through the second period, and
Brenden Morrow added a third-period power-play goal to lift host Dallas despite a 45-save
performance by Canucks rookie Cory Schneider in his first start.
NOTABLE
• Tampa Bay Lightning rookie Victor Hedman will not be in the lineup for Saturday's game against
the Montreal Canadiens following a body check that left him flattened on the ice. Hedman said
yesterday that he felt OK but will skip the game as a precaution.
• Alberta's health board said a second person has been fired for helping to set up a private
clinic for Calgary Flames players and their families to get the H1N1 flu vaccine.
