The series

The Blue Jackets are 11-28-1-7 against Detroit, including 6-11-1-5 in Nationwide Arena. This is the third of six meetings this season. Detroit won the first two.

The setup

The Red Wings are appealing the NHL's decision to force center Pavel Datsyuk and defenseman Nicklas Lidstrom out of tonight's game as punishment for missing the All-Star Game because of injuries. The Blue Jackets are 4-3-1 at home vs. Detroit the past two seasons. The Wings have outshot Columbus 75-39 in the two meetings this season.
