The investigation closed Hamilton Road, between Dundee Avenue and Interstate 70, 10TV's Andy Hirsch reported, as police investigated a fatal shooting.

Investigators have been trying to figure out how the driver of a van was shot.

Homicide detectives said three men were seen pushing the gold van down Dundee Avenue, into Hamilton Road, when a red Toyota crashed into it and then hit another truck, Hirsch reported.

When emergency crews arrived, they found the driver of the van with a gunshot wound, Hirsch reported.

The three men were seen running from the area.

SWAT and K-9 teams, along with a police helicopter were searching for the men who were seen running from the scene, Hirsch reported.

Police said it is possible the men were involved with Johnson's murder, and were trying to cover it up by making it look like a car crash, Hirsch reported.

The drivers of the other cars involved in the crash said they did not hear any gunshots, Hirsch reported.

As a precaution, both nearby Walnut Ridge High School and Leawood Elementary School were placed under lockdown, but both schools dismissed classes at their normal times, Hirsch reported.
