PENGUINS 8, JETS 5

Malkin piles up points for Pittsburgh

Evgeni Malkin added to his NHL-leading point total with a goal — his 30th of the season — and four assists as Pittsburgh rolled past Winnipeg.

The Penguins’ Kris Letang had two goals and an assist, and Jordan Staal scored in his first game after missing more than a month because of an injured left knee. Pittsburgh erased a 2-0 deficit and won its fifth straight at home.

 

OTHER GAMES

Bruins 4, Predators 3, SO: Boston’s Tyler Seguin and Patrice Bergeron scored in the shootout after teammate Milan Lucic scored a power-play goal with 67 seconds left in regulation. Pekka Rinne made 38 saves through overtime, but Nashville lost for the fourth time in five games.

Panthers 3, Devils 1: Scott Clemmensen stopped 27 shots against his former team, and Florida defeated New Jersey.

Islanders 2, Kings 1, OT: Mark Streit’s goal 1:36 into overtime gave New York its seventh victory in 11 games (7-2-2). Los Angeles has totaled just six goals in its past five games.

Rangers 5, Flyers 2: Ryan Callahan scored three goals and New York won its seventh straight over Philadelphia.

Oilers 4, Senators 3, OT: Taylor Hall scored 17 seconds into overtime as Edmonton ended a two-game skid.

Lightning 2, Sabres 1: Steven Stamkos had a goal and assist and Tampa Bay recorded its seventh win in 10 games (7-1-2). Mathieu Garon made 26 saves for the Lightning.

Canadiens 5, Maple Leafs 0: Carey Price turned aside all 32 shots, and Montreal handed Toronto its worst loss since a 7-0 defeat by Boston on Nov. 5.

Blues 3, Avalanche 2, OT: Carlo Colaiacovo scored 3:18 into overtime as St. Louis improved to 15-0-3 in its past 18 at home games. David Perron added two goals and an assist for the Blues.

Coyotes 3, Blackhawks 0: Mike Smith made 38 saves for his third shutout of the season to help Phoenix win its fifth straight game.

 

NOTABLE

Sundin’s number retired: Toronto raised Mats Sundin’s No. 13 to the rafters at Air Canada Centre. Sundin is the Maple Leafs’ career leader with 420 goals and 987 points. He played 981 games over 13 seasons in Toronto.
