Posted Jan 24, 2012 by Gary Kiefer | 0 comments

Five players named to the NHL All-Star team won't be there. Four are injured.

The fifth is Alex Ovechkin, who decided not to attend after being suspended for three games by the NHL on Monday for his hit on Pittsburgh’s Zbynek Michalek. According to NHL.com, Ovechkin "said he didn’t feel comfortable attending the All-Star game and did not want to be a distraction."

The All-Stars out injured are Chicago forward Jonathan Toews, Edmonton forward Jordan Eberle, Pittsburgh defenseman Kris Letang, Minnesota forward Mikko Koivu and Winnipeg defenseman Dustin Byfuglien.
